All you need to know

We are excited to be planning to reopen fully on 17th May.

However, we have gently reopened some of our fabulous rooms and suites as self-contained accommodation along with our Spa from 12th April in line with Government guidelines.

Guests staying in our Self Contained Accommodation from 12th April will experience a different way of enjoying Barnsley House.

Whilst continuing to follow Government guidelines the hotel building must remain closed until 17th May and social distancing measures are being adhered to throughout the grounds, spa and outdoor dining spaces.

Check in and out will be fuss and frill free - time of arrival will be organised prior  and we'll meet you on arrival in the car park with your key.  Check out will be remote and bills emailed to guest on departure.

Guests may enjoy alfresco afternoon tea on the Potager terrace each day and our Village Pub (across the road from the hotel) will be open for alfresco pub dining on the terrace every day

Breakfast - delivered each morning (toasters/kettles and pantry goods all stocked and in room ready for arrival and topped up as needed)

Guests will enjoy accommodation with their own entrance/lounge/dining area

The garden spa will be open from 12th April (with the exception of the sauna and steam room) for guests to enjoy "spa time" - which is bookable once a room has been confirmed.

We are not able to have a daily housekeeping service to clean guest rooms each day - towels and essentials will be provided for prior to guest arrival and topped up if required during the guest stay. We will limit the amount of guest contact to ensure guests and team remain safe and well.

From 17th May - the hotel and restaurant will reopen - and following previous closures last year we put together the below in line with Government guidelines on social distancing etc...to keep both guests and team members safe- these will be obviously be subject to change once we reopen again.

1. What if the situation changes again or I need to cancel my stay at short notice?

We recognise that it’s very hard for anyone to make firm commitments for anything at the moment, so for the time being we have reduced our cancellation policy to a 7 days prior with a commitment to be understanding in all scenarios connected to Covid 19.

  1. What new cleaning and safety routines has the Hotel & Spa introduced since Covid 19?

We’ve always had a rigorous cleaning and hygiene routine however our fabulous housekeeping teams stepped it up a notch and you’ll see continuous cleaning and disinfecting around 'touch points' - door knobs, handles, in the loos etc… in the main areas of the hotel, spa and The Village Pub. We appointed cleaning champions and implemented 'deep cleaning' process in place for bedrooms using the recommended hospital grade cleaning materials. 

Our kitchen brigade both in the pub and hotel will continue their strict cleaning regimes as well as observing social distancing which is no mean feat in such a tight space.

We’ve all become more familiar with regular hand washing etc… our teams both front and back of house are all adhering to this before, during and after their shifts and to complement this we have hand sanitiser available around the hotel and pub for both team and guests to use.

We also have designated areas for our teams to change before and after working.

In line with government advice both hotel guests and team members are required to wear a face mask at the hotel (and spa) apart from when dining.

  1. How are you ensuring social distancing in The Potager, The Village Pub and around the hotel?

The guest experience looks a little different but we hope we’ve made it simple and easy to follow. We have reduced our guest capacity so the house will feel even more tranquil, we will also have a one-way system where possible through main guest areas.

For the foreseeable future The Village Pub and The Potager are open with a reduced seating capacity. Our locals are still very welcome however we will limit the number of walk-ins and discourage leaning on the bar for social drinking at the moment to enable us to observe social distancing for guests and team.

We don’t want to appear stand-offish… but we will back away and maintain the 2m social distancing rule… even though we may wish to give you a welcome hug when you arrive

We’ll drop you an email prior to arrival to get as much information on how you  would like to relax during your stay with us  to limit face to face interaction – we’ll ask all those things regarding the time you’re likely to arrive, allergies, newspapers etc… so many questions but it means we’ll have it all ready for you

We’ve tried to think of everything to keep everyone safe and comfortable so during your stay we encourage guests to use their bedroom loo rather than the public loo… hope you understand.

We’re extremely lucky at Barnsley as we have lots of space and gorgeous gardens and grounds for overnight guests of both hotel and pub to enjoy during their stay.

Inside we have spaced out tables and reduced our capacity in The Potager and The Village Pub. Cleaning will continue to be a priority for our restaurant teams and with this in mind we will not have a lunch service running at the hotel but will offer a delicious afternoon tea menu alongside a room service menu for our hotels guests to choose from – you’ll be spoilt for choice…  

  1. How do I know the team looking after me are not ill?

We are nothing without our wonderful teams and their well-being is our top priority therefore we implemented necessary health checks prior to interacting with our guests each day – from Kitchen Porters to Receptionists to back of our Office teams.  

  1. Can I use the Spa?

After the last lockdown and following the Government guidelines and social distancing measures we took the opportunity to make your spa visit feel even more special by adapting the way we offer our spa experience to guests and with this in mind, from now on the spa can only be enjoyed through the booking of 'spa time' which consists of over two hours devoted to relaxing in the steam room, sauna, hydrotherapy pool, relaxation room and spa garden terrace including a 55 minute indulgent treatment.  To learn more about “Spa Time” click here.

Naturally, there have been some changes as well as more rigorous cleaning and hygiene checks, similar to the hotel –since the first lockdown you’ll also find:

  • A one-way system throughout the guest area.
  • A new treatment menu (available on our website) featuring all inclusive treatments as part of the "Spa Time" experience. 
  • We ask that you change into your spa robes and swimming costume in your bedroom to limit the amount of changing room use.
  • We have gorgeous tranquil outdoor space to enjoy at the spa and will ensure this area is kept well-spaced for relaxed time out.
  • The spa will be exclusively for hotel guests only during this time. 
  • Anyone for Tennis? Our court will be fully available for guests – we would ask that you bring your own racket if possible. 
  1. Can I freely use the grounds around the Hotel & Spa?

Yes, as hotel guests please explore and enjoy the grounds and gardens – visit the chickens, take a look at our wonderful potager garden which is being restored and replanted at the moment. Be inspired by our garden team working away (socially distanced weeding needs to be done at all times!)
