Out and about

Located near Cirencester, Barnsley House is the perfect base to discover the Cotswolds… whether you’re exploring by foot, bike, car… or hot air balloon! From golf and polo, to cookery courses and theatre plays, these are just some of the activities we recommend, but if there’s something different you’d like to try, just ask and we’d be happy to arrange it for you.

WALKING

Explore the Cotswold countryside with one of our four circular walks, from discovering the nearby village of Bibury to walking along the old roman roads, there's plenty to explore by foot from the hotel...

FISHING

Get away from it all and spend a peaceful day fishing in the private trout farms, lakes and rivers around Barnsley House. Speak to our Reception team to find out about opening times and admission prices.

RIVERSIDE STROLL

Set off from the source of the River Thames in nearby Kemble and follow the river through pretty countryside and villages. We have walking maps available and can provide a delicious picnic hamper to take along with you.

GOLF

If you fancy practicing your swing or playing a round, then there are plenty of excellent golf courses near Barnsley House. As well as challenging courses, there are golf academies, driving ranges and putting greens.

CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING

In a stunning woodland setting just outside Cheltenham is the Ian Coley clay pigeon shooting school. If you've never tried it before, tuition is available. Experienced gun-owners can hone their skills with some target practice.

HORSE RIDING

Whether you're an experienced rider or a first-timer, the Cotswolds is a great place for horse riding. There are plenty of horse riding centres and public bridleways around Barnsley House, just ask us for more information.

GUIDED WALKING TOURS

Borrow a pair of our wellies and explore the Cotswolds with our guided walking tours. With the help of our knowledgable guides, you'll discover stunning countryside, picture-perfect villages and learn plenty of fascinating facts.

TENNIS

The next Andy Murray? Or just fancy a knockabout? Borrow some racquets and balls and challenge your family or friends to a match on our outdoor tennis court. Just speak to our Reception team to arrange a time.

POLO

The UK's most historic polo club, Cirencester Park Polo Club, is just down the road with events on Sundays and Bank Holidays, from May until September. If you'd like to go, just let us know and we'll organise all the details.

COOKERY COURSES

Calling all budding chefs! Whip up some delicious dishes with a cookery course at Foodworks Cookery School... they do everything from Thai to Italian. Based at Colesbourne Park Estate, the school is just 20 minutes from us.

CYCLING

With plenty of quiet country lanes, the Cotswolds is perfect for cyclists... although there are a few hills to test you! We have bicycles available for guests to borrow, so you can spend the day exploring the surrounding countryside.

THEATRE

Enjoy first-class stage performances at The Barn Theatre in Cirencester, just 10 minutes from us. From musicals to comedy shows (and everything in between), this 200-seater regional theatre offers something for everyone.
