All About Small Weddings…

By Cotswold Photography Duo ‘Weddings by Nicola & Glen’

Micro weddings have been the format of note in 2020. However we’ve been capturing intimate weddings since we set up as wedding photographers just over a decade ago and they really are some of our favourite to photograph! Small weddings have been a popular choice for our clients wanting to celebrate with their nearest and dearest, in a beautiful setting with every detail just as they want, yet keeping the occasion very relaxed. We’ve even had the privilege of being the official witnesses for some of our couples choosing to keep the occasion very private with only the two of them present!

No matter the size, with the right team and consideration, a smaller wedding can be undeniably wonderful. Lower guest numbers means the emphasis is usually placed on creating an unforgettable experience for everyone present. A stunning location, incredible food and beautiful flowers are usually the order of the day, especially as couples can usually invest more on these key areas. Also newlyweds find they can actually spend quality time with all of their guests and each other without feeling the day is simply passing by in a blur.

From a photography perspective the brief stays pretty much the same. Even though there are less people present the main events of the day are still taking place, so the timeline often remains unchanged. From the very exciting getting ready in the morning, the ever important ceremony, your must have group photos, beautiful couples’s portraits, the fun of the wedding reception and speeches, right to the cake cutting and sometimes even a first dance. And the closeness of everyone present usually results in the most beautiful moments to capture, alongside the opportunity for some very natural and relaxed photos capturing the atmosphere of the day, which suits our photography style.

As a photography duo, having two photographers is especially helpful on smaller weddings as we can be very discreet throughout the day. For instance during the ceremony we can be in different positions and capture two complementary angles without much moving around. Most couples and their guests say they didn’t even notice us, which is one of the best compliment we can get!

Over the years some of our very favourite intimate weddings have been at Barnsley House, some of which have been published in BRIDES, You & Your Wedding magazine, national wedding publications and international wedding blogs such as Style Me Pretty. Barnsley House absolutely lends itself to smaller celebrations. From the understated luxury of their cosy interiors to the high level of personalised service given to every nuptial regardless of size. The famous Rosemary Verey gardens provide the most romantic setting to say I Do in the summer months. Alternatively the fire lit Potager restaurant is an equally versatile space for an atmospheric winter celebration. Whether you are opting for a modern elopement or you are maxing out your guest list, Barnsley House is the most gorgeous setting for anyone wanting a statement micro wedding, and somewhere we always love to photograph!
