Accessibility

Please find outlined below information we hope will ensure you enjoy your visit to Barnsley House and The Village Pub regardless of whether your life is affected in some way by a medical condition, disability, impairment, or specific learning difficulty.

Prior to your arrival

  • Enquiries and reservations may be made by phone, email, fax or via our website.
  • Should you require a taxi to the hotel or pub from Kemble Station (20-minute drive), Bristol Airport or Heathrow Airport (both a 90-minute drive), we use a reliable taxi company on a regular basis and we would be delighted to book them for you on your behalf. They do have access to vehicles suitable for wheelchairs on request.

Barnsley House:

On arrival at the hotel

  • We do not have a designated area for disabled parking, however we do offer valet parking and guests with disability are welcome to come right up to the front of the hotel entrance.
  • The hotel entrance is laid with flagstone paving, surrounded by gravel. The door leads straight into the lobby of the hotel without any steps or obstacles.
  • We do provide porter service and your luggage will be delivered to your room either from the hotel entrance or the car park.

Reception area

  • Our reception area is housed in our cellar and via a flight of stairs from our lobby. However, there is no need to reach that area as we do an in-room check-in.
  • We are also very happy to produce bills and present them in the bedroom or in the lobby on the ground floor.
  • The floor in the lobby is laid with flagstone and some rugs.

Public areas

  • The lobby leads into the bar area and the library room which are on the same floor and without any steps.
  • The bar is laid with polished wooden floor and the library is carpeted.
  • The restaurant is accessible via a flight of stairs from the lobby. A handrail is in place to facilitate access.

Toilets

  • Our toilets, both male and female, are on the ground floor of the house, past the bar area.

Fire alarm

  • The fire alarm system is bells and does not have flashing lights.
  • Assistance is given if evacuation is necessary.
  • Disabled and elderly guests are highlighted on our daily reports and Duty Managers are aware of their location in order to prioritise their evacuation if necessary.

The Potager restaurant

  • We provide full waiter service.
  • We provide background music both in the bar and the restaurant.
  • Tables are laid with placemats and are candlelit at dinner. Lighting is adjustable.

The bedrooms

  • We have one room located in our stableyard accessible via a stone path and a small ramp to the front door of the bedroom. The room has no steps and both the bedroom and the bathroom are on ground level. This room can be twinned.
  • We do not have adapted bathrooms, we have a walk in shower and a roll top bath for easy access to wheelchair users.
  • Grab rails are not fitted, however if required and prior notice is given, we can make a hoist/grab rail available.
  • Perching stools and wheelchairs are also available by prior arrangement.

Barnsley Spa

  • The Spa is located at the end of a path laid with concrete (200 yards from the front of the hotel).
  • The Spa is on a lower level from the path and accessible via a flight of concrete steps.
  • There is an outdoor hydrotherapy pool, as well as decking area, outdoors.
  • Indoors we have a relaxation area, steam room and sauna on the ground floor.
  • Entrance to the ground floor is by way of one step.
  • The treatment rooms are located on a lower-ground level accessible by two flights of stairs.
  • Our sister hotel, Calcot & Spa, has extensive facilities and better accessibility for disabled guests. We endeavour to offer assistance with transfers to Calcot Spa when required to cater for any request which we feel cannot be accommodated here in our spa.

Cinema and meeting room

  • The cinema and meeting room are located along the path to the Spa as described (100 yards from hotel entrance).
  • The entrance is accessible by one small step.
  • The cinema is a traditional tiered-style cinema with adjustable lighting (the steps are also lit).

Additional information

  • Service dogs are welcome, as are pet dogs (by prior arrangement only).

The Village Pub:

On arrival at the Pub

  • We do not have a designated area for disabled parking. However it is possible for us to allow access to the pub with prior warning through the fire door that opens onto the road at the front of the pub. The fire door entrance has a small step but we can provide a ramp for easy access.
  • The entrance is at the rear of the pub through a terrace area.
  • The car park is laid with gravel and not suitable for wheelchair access.
  • There is a small ramp leading down from the car park to the terrace and the terrace is on a slight slope. There are three deep steps down to the entrance and there is a handrail.

Restaurant area

  • As you enter the pub you are immediately into the bar area. There is one small step down to the bar and the floor is laid with flagstone and rugs.
  • There is a cosy drinking area directly in front of the bar and a dining area located to the right consisting of a few tables and a small fireplace with a wood burner.
  • As you move through the bar area there is another small step into the main area of the restaurant.
  • Several dining tables surround a large open fire with a small lounge area for casual drinking.
  • A hallway with another small step leads away from the main dining area to another room with a few more dining tables.
  • From this room you can access our semi-private dining room used for functions or larger parties.
  • From here there are double doors that open onto the terrace however two deep steps separate them.

Toilets

  • Both male and female toilets are located in the bar area with one small step to access.

Pub Service

The Village Pub service hours are as follows:

Bar: 11.00am - 11.00pm (Monday - Saturday)

Lunch: 12.00 noon - 2.30pm(3.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays)

Dinner: 6.00pm - 9.30pm (10.00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, 9.00pm on Sundays)

Between the hours of 3 - 6pm the pub is open for drinks and snacks from the bar. We can also arrange afternoon tea from our sister hotel Barnsley House situated just a short walk from us.

Accommodation

  • The rooms at the pub are all situated on the first floor.
  • There are two full flights of steps leading to both of the wings where the rooms are located and there is no lift.
  • We advise guests who may find difficulty with stairs booking a room at our sister hotel Barnsley House. They have one room located in their courtyard accessible via a stone path and a small ramp to the front door of the bedroom. The room has no steps and both living / sleeping spaces as well as the bathroom are on the same floor.
  • They do not have adapted bathrooms and grab rails are not in the bedrooms as standard, however if required and with prior notice they can make both a hoist and grab rail available.
