Please find outlined below information we hope will ensure you enjoy your visit to Barnsley House regardless of whether your life is affected in some way by a medical condition, disability, impairment or specific learning difficulty.
Prior to your arrival
Enquiries and reservations may be made by phone, email, fax or via our website. Should you require a taxi to the hotel from Kemble Station (20 minute drive), Bristol Airport or Heathrow Airport (both 1½ hour drive), we use a reliable taxi company on a regular basis and we would be delighted to book them for you on your behalf. They do have access to vehicles suitable for wheelchairs on request.
On arrival at the hotel
We do not have a designated area for disabled parking, however we do offer valet parking and guests with disability are welcome to come right up to the front of the hotel entrance. The hotel entrance is laid with flagstone paving, surrounded by gravel. The door leads straight into the lobby of the hotel without any steps or obstacles. We do provide porter service and your luggage will be delivered to your room either from the hotel entrance or the car park.
Our reception area is housed in our cellar and via a flight of stairs from our lobby. However, there is no need to reach that area as we do an in-room check-in. We are also very happy to produce bills and present them in the bedroom or in the lobby on the ground floor. The floor in the lobby is laid with flagstone and some rugs.
The lobby leads into the bar area and the library room which are on the same floor and without any steps. The bar is laid with polished wooden floor and the library is carpeted. The restaurant is accessible via a flight of stairs from the lobby. A handrail is in place to facilitate access.
Our toilets, both male and female, are on the ground floor of the house, past the bar area.
The fire alarm system is bells and does not have flashing lights. Assistance is given if evacuation is necessary. Disabled and elderly guests are highlighted on our daily reports and Duty Managers are aware of their location in order to prioritise their evacuation if necessary.
The Potager restaurant
We provide full waiter service from 7:30am until midnight. We provide background music both in the bar and the restaurant. Tables are laid with place mats and are candlelit at dinner. Lighting is adjustable.
We have one room located in our stableyard accessible via a stone path and a small ramp to the front door of the bedroom. The room has no steps and both the bedroom and the bathroom are on ground level. This room can be twinned. We do not have adapted bathrooms, we have a walk in shower and a roll top bath for easy access to wheel chair users. Grab rails are not fitted, however if required and prior notice is given, we can make a hoist/grab rail available. Perching stools and wheelchairs are also available by prior arrangement.
Barnsley Spa & Skincare Centre
The spa is located at the end of a path laid with concrete (200 yards from front of the hotel). The Spa is on a lower level from the path and accessible via a flight of concrete steps. There is an outdoor hydrotherapy pool, as well as decking area, outdoors. Indoors we have a relaxation area, steam room and sauna on the ground floor. Entrance to the ground floor is by way of one step. The treatment rooms are located on a lower-ground level accessible by two flights of stairs. Our sister hotel, Calcot Manor, has extensive facilities and better accessibility for disabled guests. We endeavour to offer assistance with transfers to Calcot when required to cater for any request which we feel cannot be accommodated here in our spa.
Cinema and meeting room
The cinema and meeting room are located along the path to the Spa as described (100 yards from hotel entrance). The entrance is accessible by one small step. The cinema is a traditional tiered-style cinema with adjustable lighting (the steps are also lit).
Service dogs are welcome, as are pet dogs (by prior arrangement only). We have tried to be as accurate as possible and have included as much detail as we can in our Access Statement, however we welcome your feedback to continuously improve on the information we provide. If you require further assistance please call 01285 740000 .
